Martin McGagh grew up in the Northwest of Ireland. He studied Film & Television and later worked as a cameraman on television programmes. He also operated as a project leader on community filmmaking initiatives, taking young people through the process of making short films and documentaries. Building on time spent working in regional communities, Martin gravitated back to his own photography as a way of processing recurring concerns about identity, belonging and shifting cultural codes. He was recently awarded a Photography MFA with distinction from the University of Ulster, Belfast, Northern Ireland.
